Private Rental Sector

What is the private rental sector?

There are approximately 25,000 domestic households in Guernsey.  About 37% own their home outright, 29% own their home with a mortgage, 25% rent privately and the remaining 9% rent social housing from either the States Housing Department or the Guernsey Housing Association.

The private rental sector in Guernsey consists of all homes that are rented from private landlords. The private rental sector also includes property that is occupied rent-free and homes that are tied to a person's employment.

The private rental sector does not include social housing (rental accommodation for households with low incomes, provided by the Housing Department and the Guernsey Housing Association).
