What is a Qualified Resident
A Qualified Resident is a person who, because of a combination of their personal circumstances and the length of time they have lived in Guernsey, is able to live in Guernsey without any controls over where they can live, who they must live with, or what job they must do. A Qualified Resident also has the right to come back to Guernsey to live here no matter how long they have been away from the Island: once you have become a Qualified Resident, you are a Qualified Resident for life.
There are 13 different ways that a person can become a Qualified Resident, and all of these require a person to have lived lawfully in the Island in a specific type of circumstance for a specific period of time. More information about the most common ways to become a Qualified Resident can be found here.
