Specialised Training
The Commence and Employment Department provides training and assessment for the following City and Guilds (NPTC) qualifications:
Chain Saws
Level 2 award in the use of chainsaws and related operations.
The course runs for three days and covers maintenance, safety features, chain sharpening, engine care and basic crosscutting. Candidates are required to provide their own chainsaw and full protective clothing.
Chemical Spraying
Plant protection products and pest control products must be used properly and safely.
PA1 This is a foundation unit covering legislation and approved codes of practice. This unit must be successful completed (there is an assessment) before any of the other units can be undertaken.
PA2 This covers tractor mounted sprayers.
PA4 This deals with the application of granules (as opposed to liquids).
PA6 This covers techniques for knapsack spraying.
Spraying equipment and protective clothing is required (but can be provided in necessary).
A tractor and spraying equipment will be provided for PA6.
Forklifts Truck Operations
Level 2 Certificate in Competence in forklift truck operations. This course covers safe driving, pre-use maintenance and safety checks and recognition of controls and instruments. A forklift has to be driven around a course with the operator moving and stacking various loads.
Training courses are arranged as and when there is sufficient demand.
