The planning application to develop 26 dwellings at Briarwood has been granted permission today with conditions following an Open Planning Meeting.
Following further discussions around the financial viability of the development and changes to the proposed access, the Development & Planning Authority (DPA) voted by a majority to approve the application with 26 conditions.
Deputy Victoria Oliver, Deputy John Dyke, Deputy Chris Blin and Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller voted to approve the application, with Deputy Andrew Taylor voting to defer the decision.
This application was originally considered at an Open Planning Meeting on 12th December 2022 when a decision on the application was deferred due to concerns about the viability assessment for Policy GP11 and the impact of the development on the Office of the Children's Convenor at Briarwood.
Six representors chose to speak publicly at today's meeting. For those who raised concerns, the main concern related to Policy GP11 and the need for affordable housing.
Deputy Victoria Oliver, President of the Development & Planning Authority, said:
"Having deferred this decision in December, it was important today that we as a Committee made a decision one way or another to provide certainty to the developers.
"There is still great demand for private housing, and we have a role to play in helping to address this demand and ensuring that development takes place in accordance with the Island Development Plan."
