Commercial premises needs survey - land for industry and storage

Businesses requiring land or buildings for industrial or storage purposes are being asked to tell the States of Guernsey about their commercial premises needs.

Business, Innovation and Skills, a service area of the States of Guernsey under the political direction of the Committee for Economic Development, has issued a questionnaire to more than 580 businesses, asking for information about their current premises and their views on the availability and affordability of suitable sites in the commercial property market. You can find this in the downloads section on this page.

Philip Henderson, Policy Officer, Business, Innovation and Skills, said:

"We've issued this questionnaire to help us get a clearer and, importantly, an evidence-based picture of the commercial premises needs of businesses requiring land or built premises for industrial or storage uses.

We would like to encourage all businesses requiring land or built premises for industrial or storage purposes to complete the questionnaire, providing as much information as possible, as the results of the survey will help us to advise the Committeefor Economic Development, and other sections of the States of Guernsey, on how best to support these sections of the local economy."

The questionnaire has been sent to businesses identified by Business, Innovation and Skills as potentially requiring premises for industrial and storage premises, including businesses that carry out manufacturing, construction, freight and logistics, and those providing services such as electrical, heating, and plumbing.

"Although we've tried to contact as many businesses as possible that might need these types of premises, we might have inadvertently missed out some firms whose input to the survey would be valuable. If your business doesn't hear from us directly and wants to contribute to the survey, please let us know and we'll make sure you get a chance to take part."

Business, Innovation and Skills will use the results of the questionnaire to advise the Committee for Economic Development on the topic of land for industry. Responses to the survey will be treated in confidence and the analysed results will be anonymised.

Respondents are also being asked to return their email addresses to enable Business, Innovation and Skills to contact businesses more easily by email in future.

Businesses which wish to take part in the survey but have not received a copy of the questionnaire should contact Business, Innovation and Skills on 01481 234567 or email bis@gov.gg to receive a paper copy.

The completed surveys should be returned to the following freepost address:

Commercial Premises Survey, Business Innovation and skills, Raymond Falla House, FREEPOST NO. GU245, Guernsey, GY1 5SS

The deadline for returning completed questionnaires is Monday 16 January 2017.
