The Estonian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Viljar Lubi, has visited Guernsey. This is the first time the Ambassador has come to the island and coincides with a team from Saaremaa competing in the Island Games.
During his time in Guernsey, the Ambassador met the athletes from Saaremaa who have travelled to the island to participate in the Games. He also had the opportunity to watch them compete in the cycling time trial and the men's basketball group stage against the Isle of Wight.
While in Guernsey the Ambassador met the Chief Minister and other members of the Policy & Resources Committee. Discussions with politicians focussed on the island's current priorities, relationship with the EU, e-government and bilateral links with Estonia.
Chief Minister of Guernsey, Deputy Peter Ferbrache said:
"It was a privilege to meet the Estonian Ambassador, His Excellency Viljar Lubi, and a pleasure to welcome him to Guernsey for his first visit to the island. The Island Games provides a great opportunity to strengthen our bilateral relationships with jurisdictions who are competing here, based on our shared values and priorities. I was pleased to be able to discuss a range of topics with the Ambassador and I look forward to continuing to engage with His Excellency and his team at the Embassy in future."
