Exporting a vehicle

Contact Us - Driver and Vehicle Licensing

If you have moved permanently away from Guernsey and taken your vehicle with you, you must re-register your vehicle with the authorities in the area where you now live.

If you have sold or scrapped your vehicle outside of Guernsey, you must notify us.

Driver and Vehicle Licensing should be informed as soon as possible after a vehicle has been exported.

Do NOT send the Vehicle Registration Certificate (log book) for the vehicle to us. This will be required when re-registering the vehicle with a foreign authority.

If the vehicle has been sold outside of Guernsey, please complete the reverse of the Vehicle Registration Certificate with the new keeper's details (name, date of birth and address) and both the old and new keeper's signatures in the 'Declaration' section. The bottom cut-off section may be retained as a receipt if required. The Vehicle Registration Certificate should be given to the new keeper as they will require it when registering the vehicle with a foreign authority.

If the Vehicle Registration Certificate (log book) has been lost, you can request a Certificate of Export (£16.00 fee) by completing this form. The Certificate of Export can be used to re-register the vehicle in the absence of the Vehicle Registration Certificate. If the vehicle has been sold outside of Guernsey, please provide the new keeper's name and address and we will issue the Certificate of Export in their name and post it to them.

Once the vehicle has left Guernsey, please complete the following notification form. You must state that the vehicle has been exported and confirm whether or not you wish to retain the vehicle's registration number for your future use (£100.00 fee to retain for one year). If you choose to retain the registration number for future use, it will be retained in the name of the current registered keeper of the vehicle. The keeper will be issued with a Certificate of Retention for the registration number. Once a registration number is retained, it is non-transferable, meaning that the registration number can only be allocated to a vehicle registered in the same name.

Please note that unless we are notified by you that you have scrapped or exported your vehicle, it will remain registered in your name until we have received the relevant paperwork.

Further advice and assistance is available by contacting DVL at Edward T Wheadon House on tel: 221000 or email: dvl@gov.gg.
