Monday 10 May 2021

Frossard Ward - Guernsey's Children's Ward - has secured the prestigious Blue SCAPE status following three years of successful SCAPE audits.

SCAPE, which stands for 'Safe, Clean and Personal Everytime' is a nationally recognised, independent audit.  The audit looks at a wide range of care criteria including the environment, leadership, safety and service user engagement.  Medical wards and departments must meet SCAPE standards for three years in a row to be awarded Blue SCAPE status, signifying 'an excellent standard for service users and staff.'

Steve Winterflood, Head of Quality & Safety said:

'In the case of Frossard Ward, the audit team were particularly impressed by the calm professionalism of staff and depth of knowledge around all aspects of paediatric care. Additionally, the parents that they spoke to were very complimentary about the care that their children were receiving.'

Anabel Nicholas, Head of Midwifery and Paediatrics said:

'Achieving Blue SCAPE status is a major success and it reflects the hard work of the whole of team over recent years - particularly this last year where COVID-19 requirements were in place.  The team had to deal with clinical situations that would have been challenging pre COVID-19 but coped admirably despite the added restrictions and pressures brought by lockdown.'

Deputy Al Brouard, Health & Social Care Committee President said:

'I'm delighted for Frossard Ward. This award recognises hard work and dedication over many years and is a testament to all team members. They have shown a real focus on continuous improvement and continue to look for opportunities to enhance the services that they provide.

The Committee was able to visit the Ward this week, having delayed a planned visit due to lockdown, and we were very pleased to meet the team and present the award in person.'
