People wishing to learn some of Guernsey's native language are being invited to sign up for a new beginner's course in Guernesiais.
The course is being offered on either Tuesday evenings at 7.15pm at the Styx Centre or Wednesday lunchtimes at 12.15pm at the Priaulx Library. The lessons will be 45 minutes long and the start date will be confirmed when there are enough students registered for either option.
Students who have previously partaken in the course have had many good things to say about their experiences dipping into a piece of our linguistic heritage.
One past student said:
"I went along with very little knowledge of the language. It was a very friendly group and an excellent tutor. I made some new friends which gives me the opportunity to practice and use Guernesiais from time to time when meeting speakers."
Another said the course was "great fun and highly recommended it."
The lessons were "Friendly and approachable, and taught with enthusiasm", and it was a "great introduction to not only the language, but also Guernsey placenames and culture".
The course is organised by Guernsey Museums and the price for 6 weeks is £25, or £20 if you have a Discovery Pass. All over 16s are welcome to sign up to the course.
To book on to the course, please email info@language.gg or call 01481 220703. If anyone is interested but cannot make these times, they are also asked to get in touch and register their interest for future courses.
