The Guernsey Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre is delighted to announce the results of its latest cohort of International Baccalaureate Diploma students.
An accredited IB World School, the GGS&SFC has been offering the two-year IB Diploma Programme since 2012. This year 23 students took the full IB Diploma, achieving an average total point score of 31. This compares with the average point score worldwide of 29.9.
In addition 77 students undertook IB subject certificates in History, Psychology, IT, Film and Spanish, with a pass rate of 100%.
Kieran James, Headteacher, said:
"Following this year's unprecedented cancellation of all external examinations in May 2020, some students were understandably disappointed not to be able to sit their examinations. However this cohort has been awarded a good set of results that are in keeping with previous cohorts, and which contains many stories of impressive success achieved through hours of grit, determination and growth, all of which are key to the IB's Learner Profile."
In order to award an IB Diploma or Course certificate, all students' coursework was fully marked and moderated by trained and experienced examiners. The IB undertook significant data analysis from previous examination sessions, individual schools and subject data to follow a rigorous process of due diligence.
The average individual subject grade across all the 23 full diploma students was 4.9, which is above the worldwide average of 4.6. The highest individual points were an impressive 41 out of 45 diploma points, achieved by 2 students, which is equivalent to more than 4 A* grades at A Level.
Students are now planning on attending a wide range of universities or accessing different employment opportunities, with one student, Mary-Kate Hubbard, successfully gaining a place at Oxford University to read Law.
The table below outlines the results for the students who undertook IB certificates:
| 2018 | 2019 | 2020 |
% 38+ points | 8% | 16% | 17% |
