In May 2021, the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure approved a policy to manage the threat of emerging invasive non-native species (INNS).
As part of this, a list of species was compiled which are not permitted to be imported into Guernsey and will not be issued with an import licence. This policy and list of invasive species which cannot be imported to the island can be found in the downloads section of this page.
In conjunction with the INNS policy, the general import licence has also been updated and is available in the downloads section of this page. Anybody looking to import an animal should familiarise themselves with these documents. For the avoidance of doubt, any INNS currently existing as pets may remain for the duration of its life, but the owner should avoid breeding or releasing the animal.
