Renewing your driving licence - online applications
- Check if you are eligible for an online account by completing the following enquiry form: https://gov.gg/trafficonlineservices.
- Some Guernsey residents can now:
- The only exceptions to this are if:
- you have not previously provided Driver & Vehicle Licensing with a unique email address; (see Note 6 below)
- you have not previously provided proof of identification; (see Note 5 below)
- you will not be able to apply for a driving licence if you require a medical; (see Note 4 below)
- you are exchanging a foreign driving licence; (see Note 3 below)

- If you have already set up an account, login to https://traffic.gov.gg;
- Enter your driving licence number and password;
- If you have forgotten your password, please click on the "Forgot password?" link and follow the reset instructions;
- If you are unsure if you have set up your account, please contact us at https://gov.gg/trafficonlineservices and we will advise you if you are eligible for online services
- Online applications
- To complete the process you will require:
- A recent digital photograph of yourself (to passport specifications) that you can upload. Alternatively, if you are using a mobile device with a camera you can take a selfie.
- A debit or credit card to pay for your new licence. Current fees and charges
- Returning your current driving licence
- If renewing your driving licence, there is no need to return your old driving licence.
- If you are adding categories to your existing driving licence or notifying us of a change of address, you will need to return your current driving licence (both plastic and paper part) before we can legally issue you with your new driving licence.

- In addition to renewing your driving licence, you can:
- add a new driving licence category to an existing driving licence (after successfully passing a theory and practical driving test);
- apply for a new provisional driving licence category;
- request a duplicate driving licence;
- notify us that your vehicle has been scrapped/exported.
- Notes
- Note 1 - If you hold a provisional motorcycle driving licence for categories P, A1 or A, and fail to renew it within the specified period you will not be able to hold a provisional driving licence in the same category for 12 months. When you have renewed your provisional motorcycle licence you must also successfully complete a further training course for motorcyclists (a Direct Access course which is a shortened version of CBT) within one month of the start date of your new driving licence, for it to remain valid. You may ride on the roads with your new provisional driving licence for the month during which you are attempting to pass the Direct Access course. Should you fail to past the test within the specified time period your new provisional driving licence will become invalid and you will not be able to hold a provisional driving licence in the same category for 12 months.
- Note 2 - If you hold a provisional driving licence for categories F, G, B1 or L, your driving licence cannot be renewed in the same category until 12 months after its expiry.

Unfortunately, if you have any medical conditions you will not be able to apply online. In addition, if you are over the age of 45 AND the holder of categories C, CE, D1, D1E, D or DE (large goods vehicles, minibuses or large passenger carrying vehicles), you will require a medical form to be completed by a local doctor to confirm your fitness to drive. Prior to using online services we need to confirm your identity. If your identity has already been verified, a date will have been inserted in section 14 on the back of the plastic part of your driving licence.- Note 6 - Email address

- You may apply to renew your full driving licence within two months and your provisional driving licence within one month (See Notes 1 and 2 below) before the expiry date as stated on your driving licence card in section 4b.
- To renew your driving licence you will need to:
- submit a completed driving licence application form;
- submit a recent photograph to the following

- if you have not previously had your identity verified, submit your original passport OR a completed Identity Verification Form. If you are submitting an ID verification form you will also need to bring your birth certificate. If you post in your original passport, it will be returned to you via recorded delivery. (If your identity has already been verified, a date will have been inserted in section 14 on the back of the plastic part of your driving licence).

- Please note there is no need to return your current driving licence and we will contact you separately for payment.

Renewing your driving licence - in person

- visit Edward T Wheadon House where you will need to complete a driving licence application form, have your photograph taken and make payment.
- if you have not previously had your identity verified, bring your passport OR a completed Identity Verification Form. If you are submitting an ID verification form you will also need to bring your birth certificate.
