Tuesday 12 June 2012

Environment Department response to media enquiry from Guernsey Press.

Guernsey Press enquiry:

We would like a follow up about the statement from the department about the former Idlerocks Hotel.

The statement mentioned 'informal discussions' about potential redevelopment. Please could you provide a statement about what exactly was discussed in the informal discussions - what redevelopments were suggested/asked for etc?

I understand that it mentioned it is up to the owners to create a proposal to recreate a hotel - but it did not clarify whether the discussions had been about a hotel or whether the owners discussed something else. Please could you clarify this?

Response:

There has not been an application for planning permission at the Idlerocks Hotel and so the Environment Department has no proposal to publicise or describe. As is always the case, when any pre-application enquiry is made, the advice of the Department has to be based on the planning policies approved by the States of Guernsey, in this case the Rural Area Plan and is without prejudice to the consideration or outcome of a formal application. The Department respects the privacy of preliminary enquiries and treats them in confidence. The Rural Area Plan is on our web site and available to purchase or peruse at Sir Charles Frossard House. The policies provide the opportunity to re-build an existing visitor accommodation establishment.
