Tobacco Control Strategy - discussion document

Thursday 26 July 2012

The present Tobacco Control Strategy for 2009 - 2013 has been successful in reducing the number of adults and young people who smoke. Despite this, smoking remains a major cause of ill health and preventable premature death in Guernsey and Alderney.

To further improve the health of our community and prevent premature death caused by smoking tobacco products, the new Tobacco Control Strategy for 2014 - 2020 proposes to introduce further initiatives to support the many smokers who wish to stop smoking. The long term aim is to ensure the young people of Alderney and Guernsey will be able to grow up in a Smokefree Environment.

In developing the new 2014 - 2020 strategy we would appreciate your comments and ideas on the proposed 'scope' of the strategy work, available to download at the bottom of this page, which aims to produce a new plan to further reduce the prevalence of smoking.

Interested parties are asked to make themselves and their views known to Gerry Le Roy in order to obtain further information about the discussion document.

Please request the discussion document from Gerry Le Roy gleroy@hssd.gov.gg and return any comments by post or email for the attention of Gerry Le Roy, Tobacco Control Project Manager, gleroy@hssd.gov.gg by Friday 17 August 2012 so that they can be considered for inclusion in the new Strategy. Respondents' comments may be published anonymously in a feedback report that will be made available to the public.
