Update - Oatlands/Les Gigands Vinery Planning Application

Tuesday 21 August 2012

Environment Department response to media enquiry from Guernsey Press.

Guernsey Press enquiry:

I wanted to check whether the Oatlands and Les Gigands Vinery sites application for an equestrian centre and museum will go to an open planning meeting (I was not sure if outline planning cases did).

I know its short notice, but it would be a huge help if you could get back to me today?

Further Guernsey Press question submitted:

In addition to my previous question - the query came about because a deputy has called for the Environment political board to have a say on the plans. I understand the the deputies have to request to have the plans directed to them. Can I check whether that request has already been made?

Environment Department Response:

Normal practice is that if it is considered there are clear policy grounds for rejecting an application it is handled at staff level, mainly on the basis of not "clogging" the process and in the knowledge that there is an appeals process which ensures there is a robust check on such decisions.

When an application is of significant interest and is not policy compliant staff will keep the Board informed and at any time a Board Member can ask for it to be considered by the full Board. In addition Board Members may at any time ask for any application to be put to the Board.

If a significant application generating substantial public interest is considered to be policy compliant such applications are normally considered at open planning meetings.
