Bulwer Avenue/Longue Hougue Lane Traffic Signals

Tuesday 13 November 2012

The Environment Department would like to advise motorists that the fixed temporary signals at the above junction will be commissioned on Wednesday 14 November and will replace the existing mobile temporary signals.

Drivers should be aware that the staging on the new signals will be different to that currently in place. Presently, there are three stages (Bulwer Avenue - south/north, Longue Hougue Lane and Longue Hougue Reclamation access). However, under the fixed temporary signal layout, the Longue Hougue Lane and Longue Hougue Reclamation access arms will be on the same stage. Drivers using these arms of the junction have got used to there being no oncoming traffic to contend with but this will change and drivers carrying out right turn manoeuvres will have to give way to oncoming traffic as is the case for most signalised junctions in Guernsey. Demand activated right turn arrows are also being installed on the Longue Hougue Lane and Bulwer Avenue South arms of the junction. Stop line detectors, which is an additional optional feature, can be added at a later date if it proves necessary, but the Department recognises that this is a temporary set-up.

Blister paving and road studs defining the crossing points for pedestrians will be installed this Sunday.

Drivers are asked to take extra caution when driving through this junction tomorrow morning when the signals are in the process of being commissioned.
