Media Enquiry from Helen Devonshire, Guernsey Press:
I am doing a story following up on the stormy weather we have been having.
Some railings along the Cobo slipway and onto the beach have been damaged and we just wanted to get a comment from the department. Just to confirm that the damage was caused by the storm? Also how much the repairs will cost? Have other coastal areas been damaged in the recent bad weather?
We have just spoken to someone who has concerns over the stability of the coastal wall between L'Eree and Fort Grey, near where it fell down a few years ago. It was just to let you know that their concerns will be included in the article, but if you were able to include in the response if you have had any reports from islanders expressing their concerns on it too? However I do appreciate that this is also very late in the day.
Environment Department response:
The Environment Department staff and States Property Services Engineers have been inspecting the coastline over the last few days and there has been no significant damage reported to coastal defences during the recent high tides. The Department has not received any recent calls or reports in respect of L'Eree to Fort Grey from residents this week. However inspections have identified a number of coastal walls including La Lague (Rocquaine), Rocque Poisson and Vazon which now need repairs to open joints following the weekend and these will be undertaken over the next few weeks. The handrail at Cobo main slipway was damaged during the high tide and heavy seas on Monday night and repairs will be undertaken shortly.
