Media enquiry from the Guernsey Press
Media Enquiry from Juliet Pouteaux, Guernsey Press:
I am following up on the boat removals from Port Grat.
I understand the derelict boats have now been cleared, but I was hoping to find out what was removed, what has happened to it and how the department is looking to prevent problems in the future.
Environment Department response:
Six derelict boats and three wind surf boards were cleared by our contactor (States Works) on 4 November. This represented what was left following the placement of notices on all boats and boards considered to be abandoned and which requested owners to remove them. A notice was also published in the Gazette Officielle on 5 October asking boat owners to remove their boats by 18th October. Boats not taken by a set date were considered abandoned and were then disposed of.
The operation to remove abandoned boats was done at the request of the Constables of St Sampson and the costs of disposal were shared with the parish.
The Department will continue to work with the Moorings Committee of the parish with the aim of reducing the incidence of boats being abandoned.
