Road closure at Route de Pleinmont - media enquiry

Tuesday 31 December 2013

Media enquiry from the Guernsey Press

Media enquiry from Nigel Baudains, Guernsey Press:

Please could you help me out with some questions re the road closure at Route de Pleinmont, Torteval, near the junction with Rue du Belle that is scheduled for 13,14 and 15 January.

A small section is closed yet the resulting diversion, according to IRIS, stretches as far as Lihou Island. Please can you tell me why this is?

How will this affect buses? The diversion section on the bus company website diverts people to IRIS yet no reference is made to bus routes on IRIS.

The Dean of Torteval Douzaine, Pat Le Tocq, is suggesting it would have been more practical to have done this work at the same time as the road was closed near The Mallard, Forest. Please can you tell me why this was not done?

Environment Department response:

A small section is closed yet the resulting diversion, according to IRIS, stretches as far as Lihou Island. Please can you tell me why this is?

The diversion route shown on IRIS indicating the use of Route des Adams is the diversion route for large/heavy vehicles, as Route des Coudre and Route des Sages is not considered best suited for these types of vehicles.

How will this affect buses? The diversion section on the bus company website diverts people to IRIS yet no reference is made to bus routes on IRIS.

The buses will use the same route as the large/heavy vehicles. Bus diversions are not available through IRIS but are shown on the bus company website. These are normally available a few days in advance of the commencement of the works. The reference to IRIS on the bus company website is for anyone wishing to obtain details about who is carrying out the works, how long they will be taking place for and the diversion routes for motorists.

The Dean of Torteval Douzaine, Pat Le Tocq, is suggesting it would have been more practical to have done this work at the same time as the road was closed near The Mallard, Forest. Please can you tell me why this was not done?

Blocking off both ends of the main road to Torteval and St Pierre du Bois at the same time would have forced all motorists, including drivers of large vehicles (sewage carts, oil deliveries, refuse collection etc) to access properties between the closures via very narrow lanes.
