Update - Old Brewery Site - Havelet

Wednesday 12 March 2014

BBC Radio Guernsey Enquiry:

BBC Radio Guernsey will be looking at the redevelopment of the Old Brewery at Havelet.

We have been made aware that little or nothing has happened on the site for some time and that there is a lack of communication on its development and future.  It is obviously a high profile landmark site in St Peter Port and in the public interest what is happening there.

And so we are keen to speak with someone from the Department and ask the following.

*What does Environment currently know about the redevelopment of the site?

*How regularly is the Department in contact with the developer? (are you kept updated on progress?)

*Have there been any concerns raised to the Department regarding the development?

*What can Environment do, is anything, to ensure continuation of the development?

*What is the time-time if there is no further development and at what point will Environment get involved?

We are running this tomorrow morning in the Breakfast Programme and would like to hear back at five o clock tonight.

Environment Department Response:

The Department is in regular contact with the developer and their agent. According to advice received we can confirm that although there has been some delay to completion of the demolition works, arising from the complexities of the site conditions, the development will be proceeding as normal and there is no cause for concern that the site might be left in its current state.

No other concerns about this matter have been raised with the Department and although there is provision within the Planning Law for service of a Completion Notice in appropriate circumstances, as noted above there is no reason to contemplate such action in relation to this development.
