Update - Traffic Safety Measures - Church Road, St Sampsons

Tuesday 24 June 2014

Guernsey Press Enquiry:

Following a crash along Church Road, St Sampson's, yesterday a number have residents have said how they would like to see traffic calming measures along the road, including speed bumps.

Would it be possible to get the department's views on this:

Has it received any calls/complaints about speeding along the road and the need for speed bumps?

Is it something the department has considered in the past?

Will it consider installing speed bumps following the crash?

How much would it cost to put speed bumps along the road?

Any other comments.

If I am able to get a response by 4pm today it would be much appreciated as it is for tomorrow's paper.

Environment Department Response:

There is no significant recent accident history for Church Road and the Department has no record of receiving any recent complaints from residents about speeding in this area.

However, in view of this latest incident, the Department will liaise with the Guernsey Police as to the exact causation of the accident in order to assess whether any road safety or traffic calming measures are considered necessary in this 25mph zone.
