Damage to Traffic Lights in Mont D'Aval

Friday 24 October 2014

Media enquiry from Guernsey Press:

As I mentioned, a traffic light (at pedestrian crossing) has been knocked over in Mont D'Aval, Castel. The police has said that Environment has been contacted. Could you provide a response from Environment about the repair work? How quickly it will be fixed etc? I believe it can be busy during school times. If you could come back to me this afternoon?

Environment Department response:

The Department was advised early on Tuesday 21st October 2014 that a tree from a private property had fallen during the windy conditions and damaged the puffin signal crossing at the Mont D'Aval, Castel.

One of the signals has sustained significant damage and the pole and aspect will need replacing. There was also minor damage to the aspect on the second signal on the opposite side of the road. The junction was already due to be closed for resurfacing next week, during the October half-term. Therefore, subject to the necessary parts required being obtained in time, the replacement can hopefully be undertaken during this period.

Temporary signs have been put out warning that the signals are out of action and the area has been made safe. The public are asked to take extra care when using the junction.
