Guernsey Press Enquiry:
Back in October we were discussing Fermain and I was hoping to get an update. The last information we had was that options were being looked at and it was hoped work would start in the spring.
Can I check what options are on the table and what needs to be considered before moving forward?
Also, is there any idea of cost yet?
Lastly, is it still looking likely that repairs could be undertaken this year, especially considering the strain in the department's budget following other coastal repairs?
If you could get back to me by 4pm tomorrow, that would be really helpful.
Environment Department Response:
Environment Department staff, with the assistance of States Property Services Engineers and the Historic Sites staff, have considered the various elements of the Fermain wall construction and the associated cliff, together with the historical development of structures in the area. A number of options have been put together which will be discussed by the Environment Board later this month. Subject to the outcome of the Board's discussion it is anticipated an application will be made to Treasury and Resources for capital funding preparatory to a tendering process. The timing of commencement of works at Fermain will be dependent upon the option agreed by the Board and contractor availability.
