Abandoned cycles being targeted

Thursday 29 January 2015

Following inspections of cycle parks, a number of what appears to be abandoned cycles have been identified.

Some cycles in various cycle parks have had notices left on them asking that the owners make contact with the Active Travel Unit of the Environment Department on contact number 202211 by 11 February, after which the cycles will be deemed abandoned and will be removed for recycling.

Tim Prout from the Active Travel Unit said

"We absolutely encourage cycling, so ensuring cycle parks are clear from abandoned cycles and available for daily use by cyclists is important.  These abandoned cycles not only take up valuable space  but can be an eyesore.  Some have broken chains and seized brakes or gears and have been there for some time.  We are asking that anyone who may have left their cycle at one of the cycle parks to collect it by 11 February."
