BBC Radio Guernsey Enquiry:
We have seen stars on the green bulbs of traffic lights across the island. Please see picture attached.
I would be grateful if you could answer the questions below...
Is the Environment Department aware of them?
If so, how long has Environment been aware of them?
Why are they there?
Who put them there?
Is the Environment Department working to get them removed?
Is there a danger they could be distracting to drivers?
Is the placement of them on traffic lights an offence in Guernsey?
Environment Department Response:
The signs were brought to our attention within the last month and were subsequently checked by staff on routine rounds to ensure they were not creating a danger. Contractors have been requested to remove them as part of routine servicing which should be carried out within the next 2 weeks. It is an offence to unlawfully affix anything to a traffic sign or traffic light signal. Such stunts do have the potential to seriously obscure essential traffic management. Obviously when immediate action is required this entails additional cost for the taxpayer.
