Media Enquiry from Guernsey Press:
In regard to our conversation can the department please answer the following.
Last year as part of the vehicle emission and width duties, the Environment Board decided to create an exemption on vehicle emissions and width duties for classic vehicles, for all cars registered before 1985.
Does the policy still stand following the recent passing of the first registration duty based on C02 emissions? If so, is the date still the same? If the policy does not stand, why not and will the board reconsider its stance?
Environment Department Response:
The amendment approved by the States by a significant majority set the lower and upper duty rates as £0 and £690. The Environment Department will now over the next few weeks consider and model the application of this range to banded emission levels with a view to preparing the detailed information required for the necessary Ordinance. At this stage no further detail is available.
