Support is available through organisations such as the Guernsey Bereavement Service. The Sunflower Project provides advice on how to support children and young people who have been affected by the loss of a loved one.
When a death occurs in Guernsey, either the Funeral Director or, if preferred, a family member, will need to register the death at the Greffe.
Funeral Directors offer both cremation and burial services, and whoever you choose will provide you with the necessary information including the cost of the funeral. There are a number of funeral services in Guernsey, many of which are listed here.
You may be entitled to claim some benefits in relation to your bereavement.
If your right to live in Guernsey was based on your spouse/partner's status as a 'Qualified Resident' or housing licence holder and your spouse/partner has died, you should contact Population Management if you want to stay in Guernsey in Local Market housing.
You should also contact the Income Tax office to ensure any enquiries can be put on hold until such a time as you are able to deal with them.
