The Office of the Committee for Health & Social Care (H&SC) has today written to all men and women who were invited to take part in our Bowel Cancer Programme (BCS) to inform them that unfortunately their appointment cannot be arranged at this time.
Unfortunately there is currently no on island capacity to undertake the BCS service. H&SC are actively in the process of trying to secure an alternative consultant whilst assessing the benefit of alterative screening options such as stool tests. All men and women awaiting screening are being informed of the situation directly and contacts are being provided to them so they can get in touch with H&SC staff to discuss any concerns they may have.
H&SC wishes to assure the public that there is continued capacity for patients referred to the hospital by their GPs with possible symptoms of bowel cancer and for those who present as an emergency. H&SC hopes to resume the BCS service as soon as practicably possible.
