Friday 23 September 2016

The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture has agreed to lay before the States a Policy Letter to debate as soon as possible seeking a decision on whether to rescind or endorse the resolutions of the March 8th 2016 Policy Letter 'The Future Structure of Secondary and Post-16 Education'.

The Committee wishes to seek the direction of the Assembly on the path they wish the Committee to pursue.

Deputy Paul Le Pelley, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture said:

'Once the direction has been determined, all members of the Committee have resolved to implement the policy, as agreed by the Assembly, without further delay,'

'The Committee believes this approach is in the best interests of the community and hopes that all members of the Assembly will support the Committee in this endeavour. We are aiming to bring this Policy Letter for debate to the meeting on 2 November after the budget debate.'

Deputy Gavin St Pier, President of the Policy & Resources Committee said:

'The Policy & Resources Committee welcomes the opportunity to have discussed this matter with the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture today,'

'Irrespective of any personal views on the underlying policy issues, the Policy & Resources Committee wholeheartedly endorses the need for this matter to be debated by the States as soon as possible and support the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture in that objective.'
