Longue Hougue recycling facility entrance to get new surface

Monday 17 October 2016

The recycling site at Longue Hougue will close for one day on Thursday 20 October, for essential resurfacing works to the main entrance.

The works include scraping back the surface and filling any larger holes with hardcore. The whole area will then be covered in reused road planings before being rolled flat.

Recycling Officer, Tina Norman-Ross, said remedial works were carried out periodically, and particularly in the winter months.

'Given the nature of the site and the heavy usage, the surface can get quite pot holed and uneven, particularly around the entrance to the site.  We want to address this before the winter sets in,' she said.

'The weather forecast is fine for Thursday so we are taking advantage. The works should make a positive improvement to the temporary site and we hope the one day closure will not cause too much inconvenience for site users.'

Planning permission has been approved for a new, purpose built Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Longue Hougue.  This would replace the current temporary facility, and will feature a concrete base and fully constructed access ways.  This is expected to be built next year.

Mrs Norman-Ross said this will be major improvement on the current arrangements.

'The facility at Longue Hougue has been phenomenally successful, but up until now it has always been a temporary site.  As such we have been limited in terms of making any significant investment.  The planned new Household Waste Recycling Centre will be purpose built and will provide much better facilities.
