From the 1st January 2019, States of Guernsey Trading Assets' sites will be smoke-free in line with a new policy being implemented.
This has been developed to ensure that the States of Guernsey provides workplaces that are safe and healthy for all staff, customers, service users and visitors and comply with health and safety and employment laws.
The policy supports the Guernsey and Alderney Tobacco Control Strategy (2015-2020) which decided to work towards smoke-free grounds in States of Guernsey Properties. To date, the Prison, Education, Health and Social Care, Sir Charles Frossard House are already smoke-free.
The policy will apply to all sites controlled by the Guernsey Dairy, Property Services, States Works, Guernsey Harbours, Guernsey and Alderney Airport and Guernsey Water but does not include sites that are privately tenanted, such as kiosks.
There are some temporary exemption areas which will be reviewed periodically. These are: the Foulon Crematorium and the following areas at Guernsey Harbours: Tenanted premises, and designated smoking areas within the car check-in area, outside the passenger terminal building and the inter-island quay. Guernsey Airport also has a temporary exemption in place which means the existing smoking areas will remain until reviewed. These temporary exemptions are for the public, visitors and customers and staff in their own time or whilst on breaks. The policy includes the use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices.
Trading Assets have been working closely with Quitline to ensure that those staff who wish to explore stopping smoking have access to their services.
Information leaflets for visitors, customers and contractors are available from each asset in due course. For further information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
