Holocaust Memorial Day will be marked in Guernsey with a Service of Remembrance at The White Rock Memorial on Sunday January 27th at midday.
The memorial service, led by the Very Reverend Tim Barker, will be held at the White Rock memorial next to North Beach.
The 30 minute service will start at the memorial to the slave labourers with an introduction to the commemoration, a prayer and the laying of a wreath by the Bailiff. The service will then move to the memorial to the Guernsey Eight and keep silence there before a prayer of recollection and the laying of a second wreath by the Bailiff. The commemoration will conclude at the memorial to the three Jewish women, which will include silence and the mourners' Kaddish, to be read by Mr John Peters, a member of the Jewish community in Guernsey. The commemoration will conclude with the laying of a third wreath by the Bailiff.
The Dean of Guernsey, TheVery Reverend Tim Barker, said:
"The Commemoration remembers the victims of the Holocaust and other acts of genocide both in Guernsey and around the world the day serves to ensure that its lessons are learned by future generations."
Following the commemoration at the White Rock, there will be a reception held at the Town Church between 12.30 - 1.15pm where light refreshments will be served with music from the Town Church Choir.
The service and reception is open to all islanders regardless of religious affiliation.
