The Guernsey College of Further Education is working in partnership with SPF Private Clients in order to help prepare their students for when they leave home.
Leaving home can be daunting and many young people aren't aware of the options they have when it comes to the rental and purchasing market.
Students at the College have been invited to presentations hosted by Gary Wallbridge, Mortgage Adviser at SPF, which aim to provide them with a better understanding of finances and mortgages.
Within the last talk which was titled 'Planning for the Future', students discussed the process and benefits of purchasing a property, the current housing market and how to qualify and apply for a mortgage. In order to help apply this to their individual circumstances, students researched the property market in Guernsey by looking through estate agent websites before Gary explained some possible scenarios that they might experience.
Alex Kosmas, Entitlement Coach at the Guernsey College of Further Education, said:
"We are so thankful to Gary and the team at SPF Private Clients for launching their initiative with us at the College. The students have found the sessions invaluable and have gone away with a greater understanding of mortgages and the world of finance as well as an awareness of what they can do to prepare themselves for leaving home."
Gary Wallbridge, Mortgage Adviser at SPF Private Clients, said:
"We believe that it is important to teach the Bailiwick's young people about the world of finance and the current housing market before they leave full-time education. With the information that they gain from these sessions, the students will be aware of the mortgage application process and how they can qualify for a mortgage. SPF are pleased that we can offer this opportunity to the students of the College, and moving forward, we hope to be able to do the same for other school leavers across the Bailiwick."
