The Seafront Enhancement Area programme Steering Group is aiming to announce the successful proposals for the initial projects this spring.
Over the past few months, the States has asked the public what it would like to see happen to the six sites that will be released for enhancement ahead of a wider piece of work that will be examining the potential for further enhancement of the east coast. The response to this process was incredibly positive, with over 350 ideas being received by the public. Alongside this public engagement, 35 firm expressions of interest were received.
The 35 expressions of interest were shortlisted through a process which involved the outcomes of the public engagement, as outlined in the graphs below, and input from a community panel. The proposers of these expressions of interest have been asked to provide more detail about their proposals, which will then be presented to the Steering Group for a decision to be made.
A Steering Group spokesperson said: "We are looking forward to seeing the final presentations from the 15 shortlisted expressions of interest before deciding which should be progressed for each of the six sites. We're still on track to see work begin this year on at least one of those sites."
Entertainment and recreational activities at La Vallette, an arts venue at Vivier Bunker and food provision at the North Planation are all among the ideas which will be heard by the Steering Group in the coming weeks.
"At this stage we will be assessing the value of the enhancement and the deliverability of the proposals and will share the detail of these once the Steering Group has heard from those submitting the shortlisted expressions of interest."
The expressions of interest that have been shortlisted include:
La Vallette
- Entertainment and recreational activities
La Vallette Kiosk
- Enhanced kiosk
- Leisure facilities
Vivier Bunker
- Arts venue
- Entertainment and recreational venues with food and drink provision
States Offices
- Arts venue
- Hotel and entertainment venues
North Plantation
- Enhanced public space with food and drinks provision
Round Top Stores
- Arts facility
- Food and drinks provision
Once the Steering Group has determined the outcome of the expressions of interest, it will be turning its attention to the wider seafront area to identify the issues and potential problems that we currently experience and to identifying the potential for further enhancement.
"This is an incredibly exciting time for Guernsey and the wider Seafront Enhancement Area programme could become the biggest opportunity for infrastructure investment and enhancement that the island has seen for a century."
