Thursday 28 March 2019

The Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure has decided to increase certain bus fares - effective from Monday 1st April 2019.

A decision on proposed timetable changes will be announced shortly and are due to take effect on Monday 29th April 2019.

The changes follow publication of a Gazette Notice to which no objections were raised to the proposed fare structure once it was clarified that concessions still applied for persons aged 65 and over who are ordinarily resident in Guernsey, Herm and Alderney on the Route 91/92 and that a £1 fare remained in place for shorter journeys.

Accordingly, the principal fare change will see the introduction of a new £5 Around Island ('Staged') Fare of £5 for passengers using the Route 91/92 for the purposes of travelling around the island. The fare will apply for any journey beginning and ending in St. Peter Port.

Modest fare increases to Pay As You Go (PAYG) and other smart card products will also be introduced on 1st April 2019. PAYG journeys will be going up from 55p to 60p while the cost of a monthly unlimited (individual) pass goes up from £20 to £22. Short-term 1 and 2 day passes are also increasing by up to £2.

The existing cash fare of £1 and Nightowl fare of £2.50 remain unchanged.

It remains the intention of the Committee to introduce the ability to pay using contactless technology later in the summer. Fares will be the same as the equivalent cash fare for the journey undertaken.

The Around Island ('Staged') Fare, in conjunction with the relocation of Route 91/92 services to Stand H at the bottom of the Town Terminus and the operation of an enhanced 'Island Tour' public excursion service by Island Coachways rom the Picquet House are designed to relieve pressure on certain scheduled bus services on Cruise ship days. The Island Tour provides a guided tour in air conditioned coaches with various photo opportunities along the route at a cost of £10 per passenger (£5 for children).
