Local companies invited to support Apprenticeships' 70th year celebration

Tuesday 16 April 2019

Guernsey College of Further Education has devised an exciting programme of events and promotional activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of individual apprenticeships and apprenticeship schemes in Guernsey.

Former apprentices from across the programme's seventy years have agreed to be involved in the celebrations, and the College is still keen to hear from anyone wishing to be involved, especially those who started their apprenticeships between 1951 and 1960.

Companies across the Bailiwick of Guernsey now have the opportunity to become involved in this innovative celebration by sponsoring different events and promotional activities
throughout the year. Business is the lifeblood of our economy, and in a fast-changing world never has it been more important for the Bailiwick to have a workforce which offers depth
and delivers specialist expertise in a wide range of professions and careers; expertise that often starts with a successful apprenticeship.

Sponsorship packages start at £549 and include VIP invitations to the exhibition and celebration events, exposure in promotional materials, publications and event banners
throughout the year of celebrations.

The Guernsey Apprenticeship (formerly known as The Guernsey Apprenticeship Scheme) has continuously adapted to industry needs since its inception and now partners with
approximately 500 employers, attracting around 70 learner enrolments each year. The addition of three new subjects; Early Years, Adult Care and Retail Management in
September 2019 will offer students a broader range of study options within a flexible learning environment.

Steve Roussel, President, Guernsey Building Trades Employers Association, said;

"The GBTEA are looking forward to the apprenticeship celebrations. Employers working across the construction industry recognise the huge value of apprenticeships in our sector. Our employers have supported the education of apprentices working in their businesses for 70 years and these events are the acknowledgement of this contribution."

Tim Guilbert, Construction Industry Forum, said;

"Even the most casual observer could not fail to notice the important contribution apprenticeship training schemes make to providing a skilled workforce.
The Guernsey Apprenticeship run by the College of Further Education, is of the highest quality and even as it celebrates the last 70 years, continues to evolve and
improve to meet the needs of a modern and dynamic workforce. Construction Industry Forum is proud to be associated with the scheme and is an
instrumental part in helping plan for and map the future of training for the construction trades."

Organisations interested in supporting the 70th anniversary apprenticeship events and celebrations should contact; Alex Bridle of The Guernsey Event Company at
