Brehon Ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital has received a donation of garden furniture from B&Q thanks to Jean Rolls, a volunteer from therapy dog charity Wellbeing Animals Guernsey (WAG).
The charity's volunteers and their dogs are regular visitors at the hospital, care and residential homes and other establishments throughout the island. The visits bring joy and a sense of wellbeing to many people by just being with or stroking a friendly dog. Jean and her dog Tilly have been regular visitors to Brehon Ward for 18 months where they are accepted as part of the team.
Ward Manager Ellen Waring said:
"We are very grateful for the kind donation of garden furniture to Brehon Ward that will allow both patients and families to sit outside in the sunshine, enjoying quality time together. The initial request was made by WAG volunteer Jean Rolls, who recognised the need, and kindly approached B&Q herself. B&Q generously donated a table, chairs, bench and parasol, which will be used and enjoyed by patients and their families during the coming summer months."
Marguerite Talmage from WAG said:
"When WAG volunteer Jean Rolls heard that a garden area had been created outside Brehon Ward she approached B&Q, who agreed to provide garden furniture for the area."
Grant McGregor, B&Q Manager said:
"We are delighted to supply chairs with a table and parasol so that Brehon Ward patients can sit outside and enjoy the warm weather during the summer."
