The Roustel Ward environment has been transformed through new artwork created by the Artist James Colmer.
The Roustel Ward accommodates elderly patients living with dementia.
The brief for the artist was to define the spaces, create conversation points and encourage patients to move around the ward. The theme was to bring the outdoors indoors, connecting to nature and the landscape of Guernsey by featuring typically recognisable Island locations.
The dining area has been converted into the Crab Pot Café, the corridors to the bedrooms are now walkways through the landscape of Guernsey.
The ward staff worked with Lottie Barnes HSC's Culture, Arts and Health Manager to create a reminiscence Lounge.
The next stage of this development is the creation of memory boxes around the themes in the artwork. The ward also aims to fundraise for a sound system to play sounds of the sea and nature to accompany the walk through the artwork in the corridors.
