Maternity Services have introduced an online 'virtual tour' of the maternity ward to allow expectant parents, and the rest of the community, a chance to see what the ward offers.
The film, which can be found on gov.gg/aboutmaternity (linked below), provides helpful information so new parents know what to expect when their big day arrives. Importantly, it has provided an innovative, online solution to some of the challenges previously faced by the ward.
Until earlier this year, tours of large groups of people were organised as the only means by which expectant parents could see what the ward looked like. However, this option presented issues relating to infection control, privacy and increasingly, data protection. For these reasons, today few if any UK hospitals hold such tours.
The virtual tour removes any such concerns, while still providing a straightforward means for parents to get an idea of what the ward has to offer.
For parents who may have very specific concerns or questions about an upcoming birth, Maternity Services is always happy to discuss those in more detail and where appropriate, provide individual visits to the ward.
Maternity Services and the Committee forHealth & Social Care welcome all feedback, however our top priority is always ensuring patients, including new mothers and their babies, have a positive, safe experience and the very best care.
