Property owners who pay their Tax on Real Property by way of Direct Debit are being made aware that from March 2020, these payments will be collected monthly, as opposed to quarterly.
The payments will be collected in 10 monthly instalments from March to December inclusive. The payments will be collected on or immediately after the 28th of each month.
Around 9,000 property owners pay their TRP by Direct Debit. A number of customers have provided feedback to Customer Services and Cadastre staff that they would welcome the opportunity to have a smaller more regular collection of the annual property tax, which is why this change has been made.
There are a number of benefits of electing to pay by Direct Debit, which include spreading the cost of the TRP account each year and peace of mind that the funds will be deducted automatically.
Customers have the protection of the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme, which provides:
- An immediate money back guarantee from your bank in the event of an error in the payment of your Direct Debit
- Advance notice if the date or amount changes
- The right to cancel at any time.
There is no additional charge applied by the States of Guernsey for this payment facility.
The 2020 TRP accounts will be issued in early March.
