Interim Tax Assessments for Year of Charge 2020

Wednesday 27 May 2020

This week, the Revenue Service will be issuing interim tax assessments to any customers that receive income in 2020 which does not have tax deducted at source. For example, this may include business or rental income, bank interest or an old age pension.

The interim tax assessment will include an estimate of that expected income for 2020, on which tax is due by 30 June and 31 December.

Recognising that islanders' financial circumstances may have changed during this crisis, an online form has been developed to enable customers to provide the Revenue Service with a more accurate estimate of their income for 2020. Submitting this form will ensure that islanders only need to pay tax on their estimate of income.

The financial support team have also developed an online form to allow islanders experiencing cash flow difficulties to request a payment plan online, where they are unable to pay their bill in full by the due date.

Deputy Lyndon Trott, Vice-President of the Policy & Resources Committee, who is leading the financial support measures on behalf of the Committee, said:

"This is a difficult time for islanders, particularly those in business. Whilst so far we have supported over 2,183 local businesses, with £16.3m paid out in both payroll funding and small business grants, many will still be experiencing cashflow difficulties.

This is why online forms have been developed at speed, to make it easier to provide a more accurate estimate and request a payment plan, so that we can help islanders manage their finances."

Like many other businesses, the Revenue Service has had to adjust its operations during the period of lockdown. The public counter at Edward T Wheadon House is currently closed to callers in person, however staff continue to work in the back office and at home to provide a service. Islanders are asked to use the online forms where they are able to, or alternatively email financial.support@gov.gg and someone will get back to them as soon as they can. This will ensure that those without internet access can get through on the phone by calling 705700.
