Thursday 29 October 2020

The Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure (CftE&I) has elected its Vice-President, Deputy Sam Haskins, following the election of the Committee by the new States Assembly.

The composition of the new Committee is therefore as follows:

President: Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez

Vice-President: Deputy Sam Haskins

Members: Deputy Andy Cameron, Deputy Simon Fairclough, Deputy Adrian Gabriel

The new Committee will work to deliver the purpose of the CftE&I:

"To protect and enhance the natural and physical environment and develop infrastructure in ways which are balanced and sustainable in order that present and future generations can live in a community which is clean, vibrant and prosperous."

The Committee's initial work is likely to include progression of workstreams on mitigating climate change and on the energy policy, following approval of the policy letters by the States earlier in the year. The housing strategy and long-term infrastructure planning, which are also in the CftE&I's mandate, are also likely to play key roles in Guernsey's recovery strategy, Revive & Thrive.

President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez said:

"Sam will bring his energy, intelligence and practicality to the role of Vice-President. His background is in IT, property and the marine world - specifically marine engineering, in which he has a degree - adding to the strength and diversity of this fresh new team.

"Deputy Andy Cameron, Deputy Simon Fairclough and Deputy Adrian Gabriel complete the Committee, each with a complementary range of knowledge and interests spanning E&I's broad and varied mandate. While I can provide some continuity of knowledge, having served on E&I for the past four years, my new committee members bring to the table their individual perspectives and plenty of energy and new ideas."

The CftE&I will work in partnership to recover Guernsey's economic prosperity, build on our inclusive community values and capitalise on our many strengths to make Guernsey and the Bailiwick a safe haven based on sustaining health, wealth and community.
