Reports of a waxy substance on Le Jaonnet beach have been received, furthering concerns that palm oil may be washing up on Guernsey beaches.
This follows similar reports of a waxy substance found at Cobo earlier this week.
If any substances are found washed up on beaches, members of the public are advised not to remove the substance but to report it to Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services (ACLMS) by emailing aclms@gov.gg. If you have already picked up the substance, please double wrap it in plastic and dispose of it in your normal refuse.
ACLMS believe the substance is likely to be palm oil and in particular is urging dog owners to be on the lookout and keep their pets away from the substance if they see it. Palm oil can make dogs very ill if ingested.
ACLMS will work with States Works to clear the substance as quickly as possible from locations where it has been sighted.
