Political representatives from the Policy & Resources Committee in the States of Guernsey and the States of Alderney met virtually on Friday to discuss the future relationship between the two islands.
This meeting was focused on strengthening the long-standing relationship between the islands, which has deepened already over the last year through the joint response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, representatives took the opportunity to discuss a broad range of opportunities to work together and enhance the relationship, including potential collaboration on economic recovery and renewable energy.
Deputy Helyar, lead for Bailiwick matters for the Policy & Resources Committee, said:
"The meeting was a positive and optimistic start to strengthening the future relationship between Guernsey and Alderney. I was pleased that representatives from both the islands are keen to progress this work collaboratively, and believe that the meeting marks a good starting point. I look forward to pursuing these conversations further and offering the support of the States of Guernsey wherever it is helpful and efficient to do so."
Bill Abel, Chair of the Policy & Finance Committee, said:
"This was a truly milestone meeting for the future relationship between Guernsey and Alderney, approached in good faith and with a positive attitude from both sides. Alderney looks forward to progressing these discussions further and making constructive progress on opportunities for closer working between the islands where it is possible and pragmatic to do so."
