2020 Tax Return opens with new online portal

The 2020 Personal Tax Return is now available and can be accessed via a new online portal. This has been designed with customers in mind and delivers an easier and faster tax return completion process.

The Revenue Service has listened to customer feedback and made some key enhancements; there's an estimated liability calculator which will tell you if you will receive a refund or will have tax owing; the new tool is customisable, meaning you only need to enter details relevant to you and essentially will skip other sections altogether; and you can also work through the tool at your own pace, saving data as you go and reviewing your progress.

To access the new return, customers need to create an account on my.gov.gg/registration. It's an easy process, but you will need your Social Insurance Number and other personal details. This helps ensure the security of the site and personal data.

The new portal also includes a change to spouse/partner access which means that each spouse/partner who has submitted a form of authority will be able to access the shared return from their own individual log-in.

Nicky Forshaw, Director of the Revenue Service said

"We think people will find the new online returns more user-friendly, meaning submitting your return online is quicker and easier. But importantly, the new online tool is designed so we can continue to make improvements going forward far more easily. That means we can react more quickly to customer feedback and update our online services more often to better meet customer needs."

Sarah Davies, Head of Service Delivery for the Revenue Service said

"We're really encouraging people to use the new online return, even if they've never submitted their tax return online. We know for some of our customers it may be something they're not used to, but we have staff on hand to help at the Counter and on the phones, who can walk customers through the process of how to get set up and complete and submit their return."

The deadline for the return is 28 February 2022 and customers are reminded that completing a tax return on time is the responsibility of every individual.

Paper returns are also now available and can be collected from reception at Sir Charles Frossard House or Edward T Wheadon House, or downloaded from the website.  More information on completing a personal return can be found on https://gov.gg/revenue-service/personal-tax-returns.
