In July last year we announced the start of the MRI Scanner programme which took 22 weeks to complete.
The scanner, which cost £1.3 million was funded from the States Capital Investment Portfolio and concluded the major Imaging Replacement Programme at the PEH.
The Friends of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital kindly agreed to donate just over £14,000 to improve the service user experience of the MRI scanner by funding the purchase and installation of skylight panels and mood lighting.
Alistair Richards, Radiology Services Manager said:
'We know that having an MRI scan can be a daunting experience. The enhanced lighting funded by the Friends of the PEH makes a huge difference to how people feel when they go into the scanning room and it can help some claustrophobic patients to tolerate a scan when otherwise they would not.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 we haven't had the opportunity to thank the Friends of the PEH for their very generous donation and decided to publicly thank them now and to officially open the MRI scanner.'
Barbara Minta, Chair of the Friends of the PEH said:
'We were delighted to be able to give a donation to the Radiology team to enhance the service users experience of the MRI scanner. As a charity we raise fund for a wide variety of projects within the Hospital. It is great to see this project completed as the enhanced lighting and sky panels significantly improves the ambiance of the MRI scanner for everyone who uses it.'
