Children's Pool to close of a couple of days to allow for emergency repairs

Tuesday 12 October 2021

Following storm damage which occurred on Saturday 2 October, the Children's pool at La Vallette, St. Peter Port will need to be closed on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 October in order to carry out emergency repairs ahead of more extensive programmed repair and improvement works.

The slipway, and the short-term parking spaces next to the slipway, will also be closed on the morning of Friday 15 October. Weather permitting, the pool, slipway, and parking spaces will all be open again by Saturday 16 October.

Because more extensive repair and improvement works are already scheduled to take place on the Children's pool early next year, the repairs commencing this week are a temporary fix.

Users of the pool should be aware that the temporary fix will look to provide an interim functional repair until a permanent repair takes place alongside the more extensive works.

The Ladies' pool is also scheduled for renovation works which will commence later this month.

These extensive programmed works for both pools will refresh the entire pool surround (the concrete areas) as well as undertake essential maintenance, including underpinning sections of erosion and restoring masonry to reduce leakage. This is work that the States agreed it would carry out as part of its agreement with Vive La Vallette and are essential for ensuring that the pools remain safe and functional for users.

The States is aware that the bathing pools offer a popular recreational activity to Islanders and seek to minimise disruption to pool use during the course of these works. Every effort will be made to programme the works so that closures of both the Ladies' and the Children's pool at the same time is avoided. However, there may be days where neither pool can be used depending on weather and tidal elements. The slipway and some parking spaces may also need to be occupied in order to allow for contractor access, machinery and storage. The Gents' pool will remain in use throughout.
