Guernsey will be joining towns, cities, and communities across the United Kingdom with its own Platinum Jubilee celebrations from 2nd to 5th June.

Guernsey will be joining towns, cities, and communities across the United Kingdom with its own Platinum Jubilee celebrations from 2nd to 5th June. The weekend will commemorate and celebrate the first time a British Monarch has marked a Platinum Jubilee, 70 years as Sovereign.

The celebrations will commence at Castle Cornet on Thursday 2 June, with the grounds being open all day to enjoy for free. At midday, a 21-Gun Salute, the highest honour that can be bestowed, will be fired by the castle's cannons.

The lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacon will also take place at Castle Cornet from 9:30pm. Beacons will be lit across the British Isles, Overseas Territories, and the Commonwealth to celebrate this historic milestone. The lighting of the Guernsey beacon will be live streamed on the Platinum Jubilee website www.platinumjubilee.gg and the Culture & Heritage Facebook page.

On Saturday 4th June, the Platinum Jubilee Community Fete will be held in the grounds of Government House. The afternoon event will include family entertainment, children's activities, a Jubilee Tea Tent, and live music with performances from Belles and Broomstick, Kirsty and George, The Wright Singers and GATE.

From 5.30pm the build-up to the broadcast of the Party at the Palace on the big screen will begin with the Guernsey Concert Band performing music from Baroque to Big Band and professional singer Poppy Neame with a selection of music from musical theatre, opera and traditional flag waving Proms favourites.

Poppy is the grand daughter of Lieutenant General Sir Philip Neame who was Guernsey's Governor from 1945-52.

A glittering line-up has been announced for the Party at the Palace with Queen and Adam Lambert opening the show, which will also feature Rod Stewart, George Ezra, Elbow, Sam Ryder, Diversity and Duran Duran to name a few. Diana Ross, with her first live UK performance in 15 years will close the show.

The event will be ticketed from 5.30pm and free tickets are available from www.guernseytickets.gg.

On Sunday 5th June, Guernsey Arts is organising a Platinum Jubilee Celebration Seafront Sunday from 10am to 4pm.  The day will feature stalls, music, and entertainment along the seafront in St Peter Port with live music and performances that celebrate the wealth of creative talent we have on the island.

Deputy Sue Aldwell, Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, commented on the occasion: 'We are excited for Guernsey to be part of and mirror some of the events happening across the country with our own unique island spin. A Platinum Jubilee is a once in a lifetime occasion and we hope that Islander's will join us in celebrating over the weekend as we mark this milestone.'

All school children in full-time education will also receive a Platinum Jubilee 50p coin as a special gift to keep from the Committeefor Education, Sport & Culture to commemorate her Majesty the Queen's platinum Jubilee.

The full schedule of events can be found at www.platinumjubilee.gg.
