To maintain effective coordination of roadworks with several contractors and avoid the need for multiple closures of the same road, Le Grand Bouet, St. Peter Port will no longer close from tomorrow (21st June).
Four separate contractors were scheduled to commence their respective works in the road this week. However, the decision to reschedule comes after Traffic & Highway Services were informed that one of the specialist utility contractors can no longer commence works due to sickness.
Rather than continuing with the planned closure to enable the remaining three contractors to carry out their works, all four contractors have agreed following conversations with THS to coordinate their works at a later date instead.
A spokesperson for Traffic & Highway Services, commented:
"As a service area we work hard to prioritise and organise works across the island's network of roads while mitigating any resulting congestion. In May, 177 jobs were completed, half of which were to facilitate utility works. Where possible, we always look to scheduled multiple works required in an area to coincide with one another to avoid a road needing to be closed multiple times in a short period. Therefore, when we were informed that one of the contractors were unable to commence works this week we made contact with the three other contractors that were all due to share this one road closure to see if their works could be postponed as well. Huge thanks goes out to all contractors and utilities who have agreed to move their work to an alternative date later at the end of August."
