Thursday 07 July 2022

The Grammar School & Sixth Form Centre is delighted to celebrate the 2022 IB results from its ninth cohort of International Baccalaureate Diploma students.

This year's cohort were amongst the 173,878 students worldwide who received their Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP) results after taking external examinations for the first time since 2019.  With a 100% pass rate amongst Diploma Programme students, four students gained more than 40 out of 45 Diploma Points, which is equivalent to 4 A* grades at A Level.  One student gained 45 Diploma Points; this impressive score is normally achieved by less than 0.5% of students worldwide.  Career-related Programme students also achieved highly, with one student achieving the maximum points in all subjects taken.

Kieran James, Principal of The Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, said:

'These outstanding results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and their teachers and we congratulate them all on these results especially after their disrupted Sixth Form experience throughout the pandemic.  The school is incredibly proud of our students who persevered throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and reached this milestone.'

The school also offers IB subject certificates instead of A Levels in a number of subjects; namely History, Psychology, Information Technology, Film and Spanish.  Once again the pass rate for these certificate subjects was 100%.

Many of our students have gone on to accept places at a range of competitive universities in the UK, in Europe, and further afield.  A number are also entering local employment.  The IB Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme continues to draw students from across the island's schools.

Mr James added:

'There are compelling reasons why Guernsey students might choose to take the IB. They learn to be articulate communicators in both English and another language, to be numerate and scientifically able as well as to have an appreciation of other cultures. The skills they develop throughout the course will lead them to be extremely versatile and highly desirable to future employers and the world's top university admission tutors.  Studying a breadth of subjects, and selecting to study their true passions in depth is centred around cutting edge educational research. IB graduates are consistently ranked very highly by universities worldwide, and as such the island is delivering true global citizens ready to contribute on the international stage.'
